Boxers back in medals

Ireland’s boxers are back amongst the silverware in international competition just two weeks after the Olympics.

Chris Nevin, Keith Flavin and Hughie Nevin, a cousin of 2012 Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin, are through to the semi-finals of the Brandenburg Youth Cup in Frankfurt/Oder, Germany. The Irish trio guaranteed themselves bronze at the 22-nation tournament with quarter-finals wins over Poland’s Karol Judin and Lithuania’s Ignas Kuodels yesterday.

Drogheda’s Chris Nevin booked his place into the last-four after knocking out Denmarks Fredrick Jensen 10 second into round one. But Kurt Walker, team captain David Roche and George Boylan bowed out.
