Sean Quigley on fire as Fermanagh men push on

Fermanagh 2-19, Limerick 2-10:

In-form Fermanagh continued their push for promotion with Sean Quigley’s 11-point haul doing the damage against Limerick.

After coming from five points down to salvage a draw against Armagh last weekend, Fermanagh didn’t need any late heroics in Brewster Park yesterday and led comfortably from start to finish.

Quigley’s free after 36 seconds gave them a lead they never relinquished and once Eoin Donnelly lobbed goalkeeper Donal O’Sullivan to score a third-minute goal, the result never looked in doubt.

Although Limerick replied with a goal after 17 minutes from Robert Browne, Fermanagh responded instantly with a brilliant goal by Ruiari Corrigan.

Having scored a wonder goal against Armagh, the same player’s superb run and classy finish put the Erne men 2-3 to 1-2 ahead.

Fermanagh led by 2-7 to 1-5 at half-time and continued to press home their advantage, roared home by the majority of the 1,296 crowd in Enniskillen.

Quigley’s accuracy from play and placed balls, allied to some impressive scores from Tomas Corrigan and Declan McCusker, kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Sub Conal Jones scored 0-3 with another replacement, Aidan Breen, also adding a point. Peter Nash supplied the sole Limerick point in the third quarter.

Late points from Johnny McCarthy, David Tracey and Seanie Buckley built some kind of Limerick resistance and David Ward’s injury-time goal narrowed their losing margin to nine points.
