O’Dwyer sees red in Cork IT win in Fitzgibbon Cup

Tipperary star John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer will miss Cork IT’s Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final after he was sent off in yesterday’s hard-fought win over UUJ.
O’Dwyer, who top-scored with 0-8, was given a straight red card in the 45th minute for striking UUJ defender Niall Devlin in the Group D clash in Belfast. CIT, who host this year’s Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals and final, were made to battle all the way and only led 0-10 to 0-9 at the interval. Antrim forward Nickey McKeague scored 0-5 in the first-half for UUJ.
A strong third quarter pulled CIT through and they outscored the home side 1-6 to 0-3 in a great spell after the break.
Pa White’s goal came four minutes into the second half, bundling the sliotair into the net after David Noonan’s long puck was fumbled by Antrim keeper Ruairi Courtney.
That put CIT in control and they led by 1-16 to 0-12 after 50 minutes.
James Connolly replied with a 53rd minute goal for Jordanstown, who now must beat GMIT in next week’s final round robin game to progress.
