Longford 3-18 Fermanagh 3-16
At the end of three competitive games across league and championship, Longford have scored 4-49 to Fermanagh’s 7-39.

In simpler terms, Longford are the better team by one point.

For the greater part of Saturday’s final, it was typically difficult to call a winner.

With three goals, Fermanagh full-forward Declan McGarry certainly deserved to be on the winning side.

Likewise, Sean Corrigan who shot 10 points, reached a double figures tally in each of the games he has played in. But their excellence wasn’t enough for a maiden title though or for Fermanagh to avoid a repeat of their 2012 final loss. Instead, Longford bounced backed from being a point down at half-time to match their Meagher Cup success of 2010.

Still, McGarry’s third goal left Fermanagh just a point behind with three minutes to go, 3-17 to 3-16.

And though Longford top scorer Eoin Donnellan shot another point, taking his tally to 1-9, there was still time for Fermanagh to rescue the game if they netted.

They almost did when McGarry was awarded a 21 yard free in injury-time. But his strike was surprisingly tame and easily cleared, securing a bounce back win for Longford after last year’s heavy loss to Warwickshire.
