Imokilly grab late equaliser to ensure they meet Sarsfields again

Imokilly 1-24 Sarsfields 2-21: Paudie O’Sullivan’s 64th-minute equaliser for Imokilly ensured that the East Cork division and Sarsfields must meet again to determine Blackrock’s opponents in the Cork SHC final.

At Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday, Imokilly only trailed after Jack O’Connor opened the scoring for Sars in the first minute and then in injury time, but O’Sullivan was on hand to level once more and force the replay.

For much of the game, Imokilly looked like the better side. Cian Fleming’s goal on nine minutes made it 1-3 to 0-2 and the lead had extended to 1-6 to 0-3 by the 15thminute before Sars replied with an unanswered 1-3, the goal coming from O’Connor, moments after he had the post.

Sars couldn’t get ahead though and four in a row from Imokilly coming up to half-time – two by William Leahy with Ian Cahill and Fleming on target too – saw the lead by 1-11 to 1-8 at the break.

Two more from Fleming early in the second half extended the lead to four, but again a Sars burst saw them draw level. Once more, the lead score was elusive and when Imokilly sub Brian Mulcahy pointed soon after his introduction, it was 1-19 to 1-15.

Sars pulled that back to two through Eoghan Murphy and Daniel Kearney before another from Mulcahy only for Tadhg Óg Murphy’s goal to level it for Sars.

O’Sullivan and Fleming provided the Imoilly riposte but then subs Aaron Myers (two) and Luke Hackett were on target as Sars led and when Harnedy equalised, Daniel Kearney put Sars back in front. It might have been the winner, but O’Sullivan was on hand to ensure that it wasn’t.
