Kildare 3-17 Derry 4-14
Ruairi Convery’s last-minute free earned Derry a share of the spoils in Newbridge as they rescued a draw at the death against 14-man Kildare.
The Lilies looked like they had snatched their first win when Martin Fitzgerald netted in the 67th minute but Convery kept his cool to land the equaliser from a 75-metre free.
Goals from Convery and Brendan Rogers gave Derry the perfect start but Kildare quickly turned things around with 10 unanswered points. Goals from David Harney and Eanna O’Neill before half-time gave Kildare a 2-13 to 2-7 lead at the interval but a second goal from Derry’s Brendan Rogers brought the Oak Leaf Men back into contention. Kildare’s bid for victory took a major blow when David Harney was shown a second yellow card in the 58th minute but they almost held on, only for Convery’s late equaliser.
