Grenagh’s forward power decisive
Killavullen had the aid of the very strong wind in the first half but were unable to make the advantage count. The sides were level 0-1 and 0-2 apiece by the 15th minute but gradually Grenagh got on top with Tom Kenny and John Russell excelling at midfield.
The Grenagh forwards had a plentiful supply of ball and points by Pádraig Sexton, Tom Kenny, Conor Fitzgerald and Diarmuid Dorgan (2) opened up a 0-7 to 0-2 lead after 25 minutes.
Killavullen battled hard and Declan Dorgan (free) and Alan O’Driscoll replied to come within three points at the break — 0-7 to 0- 4.
The Avondhu side did well on the resumption with Colm O’Connell and Declan Dorgan chipping in with early points.
However, Grenagh took control again and when Jerry Russell goaled in the 40th minute they were double scores ahead — 1-9 to 0- 6.
From here on they dominated completely, adding a further nine points while Killavullen had just a single point from Barry Murphy.
Killavullen now await the losing side from next weekend’s game between Fermoy and Glanworth.
