Mayo ‘100%’ confident Elverys deal safe

Mayo GAA officials are “100% sure” Elverys will honour their sponsorship deal with the county despite the retail chain announcing it was going into receivership yesterday.

At the end of 2011, Mayo signed a four-year sponsorship agreement, which included a landmark naming rights deal for MacHale Park. The county did a deal with the banks and Croke Park to restructure a €10.5 million debt after the redevelopment of the grounds in 2011 and announced a sponsorship deal with Elverys soon after.

However, the Mayo-based company is set to be placed into receivership before being acquired by the company’s management team with the backing of investors.

“We’ve been in contact with Elverys and we’re 100% sure that there is no threat to our sponsorship,” said Mayo PRO Aiden McLoughlin.

“We have a very good long-standing relationship with them. We hope this works out for them. We’ve a fantastic relationship with them and they are great supporters of Mayo GAA.”

Meanwhile Jim Gavin has named just five of the team that started last year’s All-Ireland final win over Mayo for tomorrow’s Division 1 opener with Kerry.

Stephen Cluxton, Jonny Cooper, Cian O’Sullivan Philly McMahon and Ciaran Kilkenny are the only survivors, while Kevin McManamon and Eoghan O’Gara, who appeared as substitutes last September, are also in the team.

Just two of the team to face Kerry — Cluxton and Cooper — began the corresponding first Division 1 game against Cork a year ago.
