Longford u21s 1-17 Louth u21s 1-04: Longford advanced to the semi-finals of the Leinster U21 Championship for the third year in-a-row with 13 points to spare over Louth.
Dublin now await Longford in the semi-finals. The Dubs defeated them at this stage last year but Longford were the last side to beat Dublin at this grade, in Parnell Park in 2013.
The Midlanders dominated most of the game and rarely looked troubled. Louth did cut the gap to four points in the 39th minute with a goal from Conor Grimes but that was to be their final score of the game as Longford finished the game strongly.
Points from Rory Connor and Larry Moran put Longford ahead by six in the 48th minute and three minutes later Liam Connerton found the back of the net finishing off Moran’s pass to extend Longford’s lead by nine points.
The impressive Connerton fired over another two points (one free) with Moran and David McGivney (free) adding on late points in this excellent win. Longford took control of proceedings right from the start and were 0-08 to 0-02 up at the break with their potent full-forward line contributing five of those points. Louth’s points came from the boot of Ryan Burns (both frees) Louth had a goal chance right on the stroke of half-time when Burns’ well struck free hit the post but Longford keeper Colm Farrell did well to block Eoghan Lafferty’s effort. Farrell was to be beaten in the early stages of the second half but it was only a blip in an otherwise fine Longford performance.
