Limerick SFC: Jamie Lee the hero as Newcastle West snatch late draw

Champions Newcastle West had to find a late equaliser in their round one tie against Monaleen in the Limerick SFC.

Jamie Lee was the Newcastle West hero with the late free to ensure a 0-13 to 1-10 draw.

Monaleen had led from the off, going 1-2 to 0-0 ahead in the early minutes with Brian Donovan getting the goal.

They were 1-5 to 0-4 ahead at half time but Iain Corbett and Lee led the fightback, though Ger Collins kept Monaleen ahead until the late equaliser.

In a battle of former champions, Dromcollogher-Broadford emerged 1-15 to 0-9 winners over Ballylanders in Kilmallock. It was 0-5 each at half-time but three second-half Seanie Buckley points and a Kevin Noonan goal ensured the win for Dromcollogher-Broadford.

Fr Caseys were 3-12 to 1-10 winners over Ballysteen.

Elsewhere, St Kieran’s beat St Patrick’s 4-11 to 3-10. St Patrick’s were 1-8 to 2-4 up at half-time with Mark Phelan getting their goal and Anthony Molyneaux and Mossie Shine on the mark for St Kieran’s. But two Sean McSweeney goals helped St Kieran’s to the win, despite Gearóid Hegarty and Liam Quinn finding the net for St Patrick’s.

Oola were 4-11 to 2-9 winners over Na Piarsaigh. Daniel Quirke and John Bourke goals assisted them to a 2-8 to 1-3 half-time lead. Second-half goals from Conor and Josh Ryan sealed the win despite Na Piarsaigh goals from Eoin Hogan and Alan Dempsey.

Pallasgreen were 2-5 to 1-6 winners over Rathkeale. It was 2-4 to 0-4 at half-time with Aidan Shanahan and Kevin Barry raising green flags. Eoghan O’Connor had a second-half Rathkeale goal but Pallasgreen just held on for the win.
