Killarney Legion campaign off to flyer with 19-point winning margin

Killarney Legion 5-11 Milltown/Castlemaine 0-07: Last year’s beaten county finalists Killarney Legion blitzed Milltown/Castlemaine by 19 points in this disappointing Kerry SFC first-round tie in Killorglin yesterday.

Legion were quickly into their stride and led 1-4 to 0-1 after quarter of an hour with points from Conor Keane, Jamie O’Sullivan, Jack O’Neill, and David O’Sullivan (two frees), before Kerry senior Jonathan Lyne had their first goal.

Things got worse for the losers in the second quarter as Legion were in rampant form, with David O’Sullivan and Donal Lyne both goaling.

Donal Kelliher landed Milltown’s only score from play, as his side trailed 0-3 to 3-4 at the break.

Legion continued their relentless march on the re-start, adding 1-1 within four minutes with a point from Peter McCarthy and a converted penalty from O’Sullivan.

Peter McCarthy fired home Legion’s fifth goal in the 43rd minute and it was followed by two converted frees from McCarthy for Milltown.

As the game mercifully fizzled out to its inevitable conclusion, the in-form David O’Sullivan kicked over four further points, before the lively Conor Keane completed the rout with a fine score.
