Kerry South boys a class apart

Kerry South 6-18 Cork West 4-8

Kelleher Cup: Classy Kerry South embellished their dominance of the Munster U15 Football Tournament to retain the Humphrey Kelleher Memorial Cup with a comprehensive win over Cork West in Millstreet on Saturday.

“We had athletic players around the middle, not the biggest but they possessed great pace and once we got in on goal, we took our chances. Overall, the work is coming through at development level and its all about getting ready for minor level in two and three years time,” Kerry South manager Séan O’Sullivan said.

Though Cork West opened the scoring with their lone contribution to the opening half, Kerry South emerged a class apart, their pace and skill a delight to watch, as was their teamwork. Enterprising attacks yielded goals for Donncha O’Sullivan, Patrick Warren and Mark Hartnett for a 3-11 to 0-1 interval advantage.

The one-way traffic continued into the second half, David Clifford adding another green flag. In fairness, Cork redeemed themselves somewhat with a recovery that yielded a hat-trick for Daniel McSweeney and another goal from fellow sub. Joseph Hickey.

Tipperary overcame Clare 5-13 to 0-8 in the Shield final.
