Cooper and Donaghy in line for captaincy after victories

KERRY boss Jack O’Connor is likely to have either Colm Cooper or Kieran Donaghy as his captain next season, after their respective clubs, Dr Crokes and Austin Stacks, yesterday qualified for the county senior football final.

The last six championships have been won by divisional teams – four times by South Kerry and once each by Feale Rangers and Mid Kerry – and at different stages the issue of the captaincy has been mildly problematic when the nominated players weren’t guaranteed selection. However, that wouldn’t be the case with either Cooper or Donaghy.

Meanwhile, Daniel Bohan could miss the county final in two weeks, after going off late in Stacks’ semi-final against South Kerry with a suspected broken wrist.
