Barr’s run Rovers ragged

A championship win over great city rivals Glen Rovers was a long time coming for St Finbarr’s, but worth the wait.

Not since the 1988 county final had the Barr’s bested the Glen, but at Páirc Uí Chaoimh yesterday, they limited the Glen to just 0-6 from play.

The Glen led twice early on as Patrick Horgan shouldered the burden. The Barr’s began to pick things up as half-time neared, Robert O’Mahony levelling with a fine point before being denied a goal by a wonderful Declan Hourihan save.

Ian Lordan and Eoin Finn scored as the Barr’s led 0-9 to 0-6 at half-time. Five points in the third quarter left them comfortable, Finn with the pick of them. Lordan and O’Connor stretched theadvantage to nine by the end.

Scorers for St Finbarr’s: E Finn 0-7 (2 65s), I Lordan 0-5 (3fs), G O’Connor 0-3, R O’Mahony, 0-2, J Crowley 0-1.

Scorers for Glen Rovers: P Horgan 0-7 (5fs, 1 65), E Cronin, C Dorris 0-1 each.

Referee: J Sexton (Ballyhea).
