20 steps to a healthier you with GloHealth - Step 12: Eat Oily Fish

Oily fish is very important for mind and body because it contains Omega 3 Oils and fatty acids such as EPA and DHA.

These are critical, both for the formation of the brain and its cognitive function throughout life, says Consultant Dietitian Paula Mee, who features on RTE’s The Afternoon Show.

Oily fish also contains Vitamin D which is essential for the absorption of calcium for bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis.

“You need at least one portion of oily fish a week – for example, salmon, mackerel, herring, sardine or fresh tuna,” says Paula. “Try a home-made fish pie, fish cakes or a salmon pasta bake.”
