SOME 20 years ago, large brown tourist signs went up, upriver of Cork city, saying ‘Welcome to the Beautiful Lee Valley.’ They might as well have all pointed to the setting of this Clashanure, Ovens, home, newly up for sale.

Location is leafy and green and beguiling in summer: from the back of this sizeable, six-bed family home there are long, rolling views east to the Inniscarra dam and reservoir, with Cork city 15-20 minutes away by car And, right by the entrance is a die-straight, tree-lined avenue leading down to a farm, and perhaps with about a half dozen homes along its length.

The vendors of this 2,300 sq ft, square-set two-storey home on a generous site almost directly across the road from the Lee Valley Golf Club are moving to a plot next door, aiming to build a smaller home.

They’ve listed this 1996-built home with estate agent Jeremy Murphy, who guides at €525,000, and he says it’s being sold on 0.6 of an acre.

It’s a well kept home, with three reception rooms, one with double aspect, and the master bedroom has an en suite and walk-in wardrobe. Two of the other five share a Jack and Jill en suite.

VERDICT: Given the setting and vale vista, it would be a shame not to get out the Kango hammer and make its windows bigger, or add a sun room, anything to capitalise more on the Beautiful Lee Valley, on the doorstep.
