IT WAS a case of not seeing the Woodwards from the trees — and the woodbines, and the Woodies — at this Cork city home with a proud name, when it got a brief mention with one picture in these pages last weekend.
This quite fascinating do-er upper, the late 1950s dormer Woodbine Chateau on Cork city’s Pouladuff Road is a real opportunity for the right buyer... once they get to see its scope, and scale, with up to six bedrooms and massive gardens, stretching towards the Lough road.
It was all hinted at here last week, with a front exterior picture, while the text extolled the potential of Woodbine Chateau, and the usefulness of the proximity of a Woodies as it needs lots of TLC and DIY: however, for home-hunters, the selling agents Woodwards neglected to get a vital mention.
Agent Tom Woodward has Woodbine Chateau under offer at €240,000, but is aiming for closer to €280,000, and it’s definitely one of the more unusual and accommodating houses along Pouladuff Road on the southern suburbs, within a decent walk of the city and of UCC. “The house itself needs full modernisation and renovation,” he admits, “but there is a lot of potential to end up with a fine family home with fabulous gardens, close to all amenities.”
It already has well over 2,000 sq ft because of a big, box dormer to the rear, and there’s also a simple sun room at ground level, overlooking the super-private gardens with west/south aspect. There’s about one-third of an acre in all, and that’s another rarity.
VERDICT: What a site.
