Fine East Ferry home with views to match

Tommy Barker tells of a prime home location.

A family home for decades, East Cork’s Whispering Pines is now for sale, offering country living with city access, plus harbour views, and space and light, on an elevated half-acre site.

A new, executor sale listing with agent Adrianna Hegarty in Midleton, Whispering Pines is set out the scenic harbour route to East Ferry, and the younger generation of the family who built in 1977 and have enjoyed it since admit “we forget how breathtaking the views are sometimes.”

The interior’s not too bad at all either as the house-proud owners make it look its best for its market launch, enhancing its internal features, arches, beams and alcoves, and the fresh-looking 1,500 sq ft single storey home is priced at €379,000 by Hegarty Properties.

Set above a public road to wooded East Ferry, on a local bus route, close to good local schools and near lots of water-borne activities, fishing, rowing and more, it’s 9kms from Midleton, 25kms from Cork city, and the gardens are almost an equal rival to the views over Cork harbour’s tidal reaches around East Ferry. There’s sloping lawns, plenty of parking, a detached shed, and colourful shrubs and planting.

Agent Ms Hegarty says the rooms’ layout is thoughtful, with a double aspect 24’ by 15’ main sitting room, with feature arched windows, painted ceiling beams and a large, multi-fuel stove in an impressive wide hearth, with carved stone features.

There’s also a double aspect kitchen/dining room with painted units, utility room, a large hall, guest shower room and black and white tiled main bathroom (with Jacuzzi corner bath) and four bedrooms, of which one is en suite, so it’s well provided for on the washing front.

It’s got a prime location, convenience and ready access in a rural setting, and “spectacular views as just some of its qualities,” add Hegarty Properties.

VERDICT: East Ferry is stand-out and planning’s nigh impossible to get, so anything along here with a view carries a premium.
