KURT COBAIN’S guitar will headline Julien’s Music Icons sale online in Hollywood on June 19-20.

It was played at what would become Nirvana’s most legendary performance in a live taping for MTV Unplugged on November 18, 1993, five months before his death. The opening estimate is a cool $1 million.

Back on this side of the Atlantic, Matthews sold a Russian 14-carat gold-mounted enamelled and diamond-decorated frame and portrait for a hammer price of €5,600 on Tuesday evening.

A fine Cork clock from the collection of the late Garech Browne at Luggala comes up at Sotheby’s Decorative & Fine Art online sale which runs to next Wednesday.

The c1780 George III mahogany and chinoiserie carved fretwork longcase clock by James Aickin is reasonably estimated at just £800-£1,200.

Several other lots of Irish interest in this sale include an Irish provincial silver chalice from 1643, also from Luggala.

Part of Garech Browne’s cellar is scheduled to come up at Fonsie Mealy’s next online sale at the end of June. A timed online sale of jewellery, silver and watches runs at O’Reilly’s of Francis Street in Dublin until Wednesday.

Woodward will hold an online sale with 350 lots of antique furniture, art, silver and collectibles on May 30.

Meanwhile, the peak season for garden sales and architectural salvage passed us by this year. There has been little in the way of stone troughs, antique garden benches, old fountains, finials and statuary on the market. Many in lockdown have deeply reconsidered aspects of their garden.

At Cloverhill in Co Cavan Victor Mee will offer more than 800 lots of garden and decorative materials in a two-day online auction on May 23 and 24. With luck, there will be garden lots at other auctions.
