House McGrath is new in Ireland and new in Cork. Carla McGrath, founder and owner, has a strong background in house and interior design and sustainability built up over years living in London, Cape Town and now Cork. This blue Indian block print fabric is a fine example of what’s on offer. It’s €14.50 p/m. It would look at home on a table as a runner or a tablecloth, or made into a soft throw or a quilt on the end of a bed or as pillows. The House McGrath showroom is on the Tramore Road in Cork; see www.housemcgrath.com.

Ailbhe Gerrard hand-makes these scented beeswax candles, on her farm on the shores of Lough Derg in Tipperary — where she also keeps beehives. Keep living the dream, Ailbhe. This Brookfield candle is €40, find out more see www.brookfield.farm

This acrylic, collage and resin piece is part of a series by artist Clare O’Connor. She loves working with pieces that have a timeless quality that transcends the parameters of ‘the latest trend’. When it’s time for a new look these items make it into the new chapter too. It also aligns well with our ethos of mindful buying and a more sustainable approach to decorating! Check www.clareoconnor.net/paintings. All the pieces are 10 inch x 11.5inch x .5inch, €299 each.

Behold this beauty. It’s titled Rowing on the Blackwater (in splendid isolation). It’s 100 x 100cm oil on canvas by award-winning artist Maria Dowling of Fermoy, Co Cork, and available through the Blackwater Valley Makers Arts Centre in Fermoy. Maria will have an exhibition in the Ardmore Gallery and Tea Rooms as soon as they reopen. There’s also a solo exhibition ‘A Summer Place’ in the Gaslamp Gallery, Gorey, hopefully at the end of July 2020. www.blackwatervalleymakers.com

This gorgeous set is by ceramicist Susan Herlihy of CraftyHands Studio. Based in Midleton, Susan’s wheel-thrown and hand-built work is a collection called Beachware and it captures the essence of the sublime East Cork coastline; this set is €85. www.craftyhands.info

Tomomi of Slaney Quilting Studio makes textile art using quiltmaking techniques. Simply put, she cuts up a range of fabrics and stitches them together again to make something totally new. To finish, she adds decorative stitches on top. Pictured here is ‘Cascade’ (€720). The design is largely geometric and abstract. All the detailed quilting in white thread here is done by hand and, like original paintings, only one of each piece can be created. There are some ready-made pieces available from Tomomi’s online shop and she also accepts personal commissions. www.slaneyquiltingstudio.com
