Heritage Week is taking place in Fota Arboretum & Gardens.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) staff are providing a free guided tour of the grounds on August 20, 21 and 22 at 2pm.

No booking is necessary. Just meet at the flagpoles in front of Fota House.

A new nature trail at Mount Congreve Gardens, near Kilmeaden, Co Waterford, is available free of charge for August.

The 70-acre gardens offer a 1.5km nature trail giving youngsters a set of challenges as they meander the walking trails through the world-famous gardens located just outside Waterford City.

The gardens are open every day for the summer, from 11am-5.30pm. Last entry 4.30pm.

The Irish National Stud and Gardens, Kildare, in association with ISNA, holds its first plant fair on Saturday, from 11am to 4pm.

Admission is €5, which will allows reduced entry into the Japanese Gardens.

CountryLife Garden Centre network is donating free flowering perennials and wildflower seeds to 24 Tidy Towns and communities to help protect bee species at risk of extinction.

The leading farm and rural retailer, owned by Glanbia Ireland, is also giving free wildflower seeds to customers at its network of 14 award-winning CountryLife garden centres across Leinster and Munster and is highlighting in-store which plants are particularly pollinator-friendly.

CountryLife’s in-store horticulturalists are promoting natural pest control methods and providing free information for customers to help them to reduce or eliminate their use of herbicides.

Pollinating plants are available in all CountryLife Garden Centres or visit for more information.

Calling budding botanists: A children’s workshop on collecting and pressing flowers takes place on August 15 at the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland, Dublin, from 11am; suitable for age six and upwards.

Admission free, booking essential. Meet at the Education and Visitor Centre.
