Isn’t this just a thing of beauty? It’s the Caulfield Country Boards chess board, inspired from artwork taken from the ‘Book of Kells’. The board has been hand-manufactured using home-grown, hardwood flaming beech and the pieces are made from Irish limestone.

The ebb and flow of arrivals and departures at Cork Airport echoes the beautiful sea and landscapes of Sherkin Island artist, Jo Ashby. Her solo exhibition, ‘Heading West’ can be seen at the airport until June 28. Ashby works in series, investigating and exploring a particular aspect of the landscape or sea. Pictured here is her ‘Walking East, Sherkin Island’ in acrylic.

What beautiful colours in this collaborative piece between Alison Ospina of Greenwood Chairs and artist Etain Hickey. The stool was created by Alison and painted by Etain and can be seen in the latter’s gallery in Clonakilty. We hear there are some exciting exhibitions planned for summer, with ‘Lighthouses, Beacons and Buoys’ in July and ‘Birds Beasties and Friends’ in August. Get yourselves west immediately!
