A silver lining to all this stormy weather is not having to constantly defend the frankly ridiculous amounts of candles in the house. A new launch has caught my eye, Co Tyrone lady, Laura McNamee’s range of luxury, eco-friendly candles and diffusers. Sure, you’re no-one if you don’t have a diffuser these days. The newest addition is a two-wick candle called Incense — Citrus Intense. It’s got an impressive burn time of 60 hours and each candle is individually hand poured and left to cure for a minimum of three weeks. They cost €33 and are available from selected stockists, like Kahlo & Apfel in Farren Village, Cork, Lime Boutique in Douglas, and online at www.sassandboho.com
Storage — can we ever really have enough? Not in my house. I spotted this Keter Madison bench in the Argos catalogue. It’s durable, weather resistant, and combines as a seating area outside — or inside if you have the room — as well as a neat way of disguising all the extra STUFF from Christmas. I think it’s a neat idea for the kids’ outdoor toys. Or you could use if for gardening tools. Even better, it’s billed as low maintenance and easy to assemble. €149.99 from www.argos.ie
Flying Tiger Copenhagen Stores are always worth a little nose around. I spotted these cute and colourful woven boxes in the Mahon Point shop in Cork. They cost €7. Find out more https://ie.flyingtiger.com/

For sleek tech for 2018, cast your eye over this Life Space UX from Sony. The glass sound speaker is made from organic glass and an LED inside the cylinder combines ambient light with music. Apparently, the vibration of the glass is close to that of human vocal chords and creates a uniquely lifelike sound experience. I just think it looks cool. It’s available through sony.co.uk priced at €898.
How adorable is this linen bear cushion? It’s handcrafted in cork by Mr Kite Designs and is available for €32 in a wonderful shop called Wild Design in Paul St Shopping Centre. The brainchild of Bronwyn Connolly, the store is barely three months old and is a fascinating space to browse around. We love the fact that it specialises in unique, hand-crafted and ethically-made Irish produce. Bronwyn took over the premises from her mother Mary, who ran the Candle Shop for 23 years. Here’s to the next generation. You can find them on Facebook, www.facebook.com/WildDesignCork/
