Coachford Flower and Garden Club is having a talk on spring gardening on Wednesday, February 18, in Breathnach’s Courtyard Café. The guest speaker is DJ Murphy from Bandon Garden Centre.

Conna and District Flower and Garden Club will host an evening on ‘Feeding and Pruning’ on February 18 at 8pm in Conna Hall. The talk will be presented by DJ Murphy, Bandon Garden Centre. Flowering bulbs and shrubs will be on sale on the night. www.connaflowerandgardenclub.org

The next meeting of the Owenabue Garden and Flower Club, Carrigaline, will be held on Monday, February 23, at 8pm in St Marys C of I School Hall. A talk will be given by Sheila Crean of Atkin’s Garden Centre on “Grow your own Fruit and Veg”. Visitors welcome — enquiries to 086-3222615.

Ladysbridge and District Flower and Garden Club will have Caroline Robinson, chemical-free vegetable grower from Bandon as its guest speaker on Monday, February 16, at Garryvoe Hotel at 8pm. All welcome.

Passage, Glenbrook and Monkstown Grow It Yourself Club are holding their next meeting on Thursday, February 19, at 7.30 pm in the C of I Hall, Passage West. Madeline McKeever of Brown Envelope Seeds, West Cork will be give a talk on buying, swapping and saving seeds. Gardeners of all abilities are welcome. Enquiries to 086-2405573.

A seventh edition of the Teagasc Guide to Vegetable Growing has just been published. Copies, which are free of charge, may be obtained by emailing its author, Stephen Alexander at stephen.alexander@teagasc.ie . An electronic version is also available on the Teagasc website under ‘Publications’.

The Ballinora / Waterfall Garden and Lifestyle Club will host Alan Prichard of Newmarket to talk on all aspects of spring organic gardening on Monday, February 16, at 8pm in the Scout Den, Ballinora.

Workshops and demonstration will take place every Saturday in February at Griffin’s Garden Centre beginning today at 2pm with a talk on summer colour. This is a free event.

The GIY Cookbook, Grow, Cook, Eat has been shortlisted for the Gourmand World Cookbook Award. The award is often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Food Awards’ and is a global stamp of accreditation in a field that covers cookbook and wine publishing in all languages and all countries. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in China in May.
