Perfect for a stable West Cork life

IT’S ALL horses for courses for the woman selling this one-off West Cork home, small holding, horse facility par excellence and a whole host more: as an engineer, she’ll simply saddle up and start all over again.

Working with Cork County Council, based in West Cork and with a wide-ranging professional remit (including the region’s off-shore islands), this was a bolt-hole to indulge engineer Sarah Sinnott’s unequal passion for both houses and horses.

Having trained stallions up to RDS Reserve champion levels, and with more rosettes than you could shake a head collar at with her top Connemara pony Gleann Rua Native, in a single breath she’ll dismiss the achievement of building a 2,400 sq ft home to a high standard, along with equestrian complex and buildings that include a fully-equipped mechanic’s garage/workshop — but she will talk horses instead of houses, well, until the cows come home.

Sarah’s decided to put her entire homestead and equestrian base on 6.5 acres between Skibbereen and Drimoleague up for sale, and has enlisted the services of Clonakilty-based estate agent Kieran O’Gorman to find a new occupant for it.

“It’s both a home and an equestrian facility done to a very high standard, one of the very best around,” says Mr O’Gorman, and he should know, he’s also a top RDS award winner, horse trainer and breeder, and a member of the Irish Horse Board for Munster.

Mr O’Gorman guides at €475,000 for the well-designed 2,400 sq ft four-bed house, with high insulation standards, underfloor heating, central vacuum, and all principal rooms ranged around a sun-room and facing south for sun and undulating rural views towards Bantry.

Apart from the house and adjacent buildings, there’s 5.5 acres of pasture, enough space to graze up to four horses, and lots of green hacks on quiet local roads.

For those not so completely committed to horses, the property will as equally suit hobbyists with a passion for cars or boats, and the workshop set-up is a walk-in job for a mechanic, complete with car-lift.

Location is at Kilmore, Drimoleague, half an hour from Bandon and an even easier strike too to Clonakilty and Skibbereen towns.
