Two new furniture stores open this week in Cork, underlining economic recovery and increased consumer spend.
Having expanded to Waterford’s Butlerstown Retail Park, Dublin’s Sandyford, and Kildare in the past couple of years, EZ Living Furniture will open its third Cork super store, tomorrow, at East Gate Retail Park, with 20 new jobs.
The family-owned company, controlled by Caroline, Gavin and James White, operates under the larger EZ Living buying umbrella group and also has substantial warehousing in Little Island.
They are opening their largest, single stand-alone Cork store of 26,000 sq ft (inc mezzanine)-at the O’Flynn Construction Little Island retail park near Harvey Normans, in a deal negotiated by Savills who have term sagreed also on a 60,000 sq ft DIY anchor.
Co-director Caroline White said they felt a growing need for a large furniture presence to serve the East Cork region, including Glanmire, Glounthaune, Carrigtwohill and Midleton, etc.
The store will feature sofas, 30 bedroom ranges, and contemporary household items of furniture, and 2015 has already seen an extension to the company’s warehouse and a new fleet of delivery trucks, says Gavin White.
Meanwhile, another long-established family-run furniture business Finline, set up in 1979 by Kevin Finane, has moved to 6,000 sq ft at Unit 17 on a 20 year lease at St Patrick’s Woollen Mills, Douglas, in a profile unit which has had a long tradition of furniture sales. Finline is also in Portlaoise, with a manufacturing base at Emo, and Long Mile Road, Dublin.
