Treviso clinical as woes grow for misfiring Connacht

For the first time this season, the westerners failed to register a try on what was a disappointing night in the Venetian rugby outpost. Dan Parks kicked their only points as the Italians outscored their hosts two tries to zero.

For Treviso, Alessandro Zanni and Luca Morisi both touched down whilst Alberto di Bernardo and Tobias Botes kicked the rest of their points

With their extensive injury list, Connacht were always up against it and their cause wasn’t helped when they lost centre Eoin Griffin just before kick-off, with Brian Murphy stepping in as a replacement.

To make matters worse, they lost prop Ronan Loughney in the 27th minute while his replacement, Nathan White, lasted only five minutes before following suit.

They were forced to play 10 minutes with a man deficit as scrum-half Paul O’Donohoe was sin-binned in a first half which the hosts claimed 9-0 with three penalties..

Parks finally got Connacht off the mark with a penalty 10 minutes after the break before a mix-up in the back three gift-wrapped a try for Treviso, Zanni benefiting.

Botes’ conversion eased Treviso into a 16-3 lead.

Even when Treviso lost Robert Barbieri to the bin deep into the half, Connacht couldn’t take advantage. Instead, it was Treviso who added the frosting late on with substitute Morisi scoring with his only touch.
