Many of the leading fancies were confirmed yesterday, the likes of the Champion Stakes first two Fatboyz Nodrog and Shaneboy Lee as well as the highly regarded College Causeway. Others entered were English Derby winner Kinda Ready and the Finnish challenger Eijas Choice.
The participation of Eijas Choice is a remarkable story. The recent Finnish Championship winner is making his way from Finland this week by boat but it has been a far from ideal trip and the latest news is that the dog will arrive in Ireland tomorrow.
The entries close tomorrow at noon and the draw will be made on Monday at 10 am. The first round heats will be run over three nights next week when four will qualify from each heat to make for 96 runners in the second round.

Closing on Tuesday and commencing on Saturday week is the Cork GOBA Past Presidents A3 Stake with all 24 entries having raced three times at either Cork or Youghal and preference will be given to members of Cork GOBA.
Next week’s Getting Out Stakes will be an Open 550 while entries are also invited for a number of one-off races to be run over the next few weeks: D4 750, D1 750, A4 Novice 750 and Open Hurdle. Incidentally the next Sales at Curraheen Park will be on Tuesday, August 11th and the catalogue is available from the Racing Office.
The big race of the week will be the Thurles Fresh Milk Tipperary Cup final at Thurles on Saturday night and it promises to be a very special occasion. In all there will be more than €38,000 in prizemoney on offer with seven finals in total. Racing commences at 8 pm.
Cleary Bookmakers have priced up the final and make Chicken Supper the 6-4 favourite with Serene Digital next at 5-2.
The draw certainly favours the Sean Twomey owned Chicken Supper as he won from the inside box last week in convincing fashion and is the likely leader. He is one of two finalists for John Kiely, Callums Lad being the other. He, too, must come strongly into the reckoning on his narrow semi victory from Gilbeyhall Jake a week ago. The vote must go to Chicken Supper.
Tomorrow night at Dundalk the quarter finals of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup will be run and all four races promise to produce some great battles. The one everybody is awaiting is the meeting of Aho Tony and the unbeaten Carlows Pride in the second heat and matter are complicated by the presence of Tolerton Smasher, Ibetx Dot Com and Glenwood Dream.
Shaneboy Nadal, King Style and Highview Joe should battle it out in the opener, while Inny Blue and the veteran Ullid Conor look the big two in Heat 3. Brother Lee could be the one in the last qualifier. The card also includes the semi-finals of the valuable Redbook.ie Open 600.
Down at Tralee the Paddy Byrne Memorial kicks off tomorrow night while there is a change of schedule at the Kingdom Stadium next week. The Tuesday meeting will take place on Thursday to facilitate those who wish to enjoy the Inter Track coverage of the Irish Derby from Shelbourne. That Thursday card at Tralee will include the heats of the Pembroke Construction Rose of Tralee Stake.
