LAST year the wise old men from Crossmaglen tabled a motion at the Armagh convention calling for the Gaelic Players’ Association (GPA) to publish a detailed account of how GAA funding for their organisation was spent in 2010. Crossmaglen asked that these accounts be made available to all clubs in the GAA.

CLARE club Kilmaley have demanded an explanation from GAA President Christy Cooney as to why they failed to receive one of 10 €25,000 Strategic Infrastructure Funding Programme grants allocated at a recent Clare county board meeting from the monies the county received from the financial dividend of opening Croke Park to soccer and rugby since 2007.

UNUSUALLY for the GAA Congress which can often turn into a boring, long drawn-out affairs, the weekend gathering of delegates delivered the full gamut of emotions. They ranged from the frustration of opponents of the government grant scheme in losing the final battle, to the exultation of president-elect Christy Cooney on succeeding second time round with 60 votes to spare.
