The former prudential director with the Financial Regulator has told the trial of three former Anglo Irish Bank executives that he was not aware the bank was financing the purchasing of its own shares by 10 high net worth investors.

Former Anglo Irish Bank chairman and chief executive Sean FitzPatrick is to go on trial accused of unlawfully helping to back a group of investors – including members of Sean Quinn's family – to buy shares in the financial institution in 2008.

THE National Assets Management Agency is opposing the appointment of an examiner to five companies in the Whelan Group, one of the largest concrete products suppliers in the country employing 120 people. The High Court will hear the petition for examinership on Friday.
