Actor and UN ambassador Ralph Fiennes today paid a brief visit to Irish soldiers in Chad.

CONTROL of the Chad peacekeeping mission involving Irish troops was yesterday handed over to the United Nations amid growing fears of more rebel violence and a possible influx of refugees fleeing neighbouring Darfur.

Almost 400 troops bound for troubled African state Chad went on parade in Dublin today ahead of joining the tough peace enforcement mission.
