MARLAY Park in south Co Dublin is a vast space. A collection of large lawns, football pitches and playgrounds, it is surrounded by motorways and busy roads. On a grey Friday afternoon, with clouds assembling and gliding over the nearby Dublin Mountains, two people trot around it, each with very different goals.

DUBLIN lived up to its reputation for hosting the “friendly marathon” yesterday as a record entry of more than 11,700 runners took part in the annual race around the streets of the capital in a good-humoured event that was enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
