IS it just me who resents the unfair way worldwide financial problems have affected the ordinary saver?

TONY PROCTOR (Letters, October 7) appears to believe that a Catholic ethos in schools tends to stunt high performance in mathematics, science and technology and that more generally it is inimical to a true spirit of educational inquiry.

IN his letter (October 7), Tony Proctor suggests religious influence in Irish schools may be the reason why there are problems with levels of mathematical attainment here.

SEVERAL recent reports have highlighted how second-level students have underperformed in mathematics, science and technology.

THAT was a lopsided and poorly-researched feature article on classic cars in Ireland (‘Classic symptoms’, January 25). I’m afraid it’s this sort of misconceived sentiment and mythology that helps keep the use and appreciation of such cars fixed in the bargain-basement of our consciousness.
