THE Irish Mail on Sunday newspaper has claimed there is no evidence of any damage, loss or prejudice resulting from its publication of an alleged “fake” copy of the Sunday Tribune last month, just days after a receiver was appointed to it.

A LETTER writer to the Irish Examiner during the week asked if the manner in which John O’Donoghue was essentially forced to step down as Ceann Comhairle was “trial by media and mob justice.” There can be little doubt that there was an element of this in what happened. People are becoming dangerously exasperated.

QUINN Insurance Group has lost a High Court bid to strike out parts of the Sunday Tribune’s defence in forthcoming libel proceedings over articles alleging it recruited gardaí to approach solicitors to offer them bonuses on their fees to recommend reduced settlements to clients in cases against Quinn Direct.
