A recent article (Irish Examiner, January 4) asked a timely question — “Could climate change pose a threat to our ability to produce electricity?” There is another real risk. A massive solar flare would have the magnetic power to trip electrical power grids worldwide.
America is a country (and not alone) that solves many of its ‘problems’ with death. It executes people who have transgressed society’s laws. It sweeps the problem of unwanted children under the carpet of abortion.
When the banking catastrophe crashed upon the shores of Ireland, our Government nationalised the banks. We hear lately that they want to privatise those same banks again. The people of Ireland now rightly own the banks, although you would never think so.
I am normally a fan of Victoria White’s excellent and perceptive column. But her article on Nellie Organ (Irish Examiner, 27 August) displays a profound lack of insight into the central mysteries of Christianity, whether of Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant variety.
I refer to yesterday’s press release from the SEAI, and the assertion by its chief operations officer, Dr Brian Motherway, that “we have a transparent and functioning planning process, which has proven itself capable, time and again, of making objective decisions”.
