The director of services with Kildare County Council, Niall Morrissey, has defended the decision to keep the speed limit on the newly upgraded M7 at 60km/h for today.
Works have been taking place on the motorway since January of last year.
As part of upgrade works, a new bridge is being installed and the motorway is closed in both directions between Naas North and Naas South.
Motorists are being warned to expect significant delays this weekend on the main M7 in Co. Kildare.
Sean O’Neill told RTE Radio’s News at One that there had been difficulties because of the “unfortunate timing” of an accident and unexpected snow.
Emergency services are at the scene of a truck crash on the N7 in Dublin this morning.
A man killed in a single vehicle road crash in Co Limerick has been named locally as father of one, Roibeárd Thornton, a native of Co Kerry.
