More than 3.2 million people have registered to vote in Friday's historicEighth Amendment referendum - with more than twice as many new voters expected to be on the list compared to the 2015 marriage equality referendum.
The Government has agreed to pay a woman who was forced to travel to Britain for an abortion after a fatal foetal abnormality diagnosis €30,000 in compensation for psychological trauma.
A Catholic bishop has said that abortion is “not a medical treatment” but is “the direct and intentional destruction of an unborn baby and is gravely immoral in all circumstances”.
Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil members of the Oireachtas committee on the Eighth Amendment will block any further motions on the amendment if they are put down before the cross-party group completes its work.
