Moves are under way to cut back dangerous trees along a 1km stretch of one of the country’s busiest tourist routes. A number of fatal accidents involving trees have occurred on the Ring of Kerry road just outside Killarney and recent storms have made trees unstable, it has been claimed.

The Lucey family in West Cork have been without power since the high winds struck last Wednesday, and it could be Thursday before the power — and the water supply — is back.
