The Ladbrokes Irish Grand National is one of the most precious jewels in Ireland’s racing crown, and it was Lion Na Bearnai who came up trumps, returning at odds of 33/1, with the crowds happy to cheer him into the winners’ enclosure with his popular local trainer Tom Gibney.

You have to enjoy it when the horses are going well and, with three winners in the past week before last night in Dundalk, I am certainly not complaining. In fact four out of my previous ten runners came up trumps so that’s a percentage you’d have to be happy with!

THE IRISH flat season doesn’t come to an end until tomorrow week but with Bostons Angel, Oscars Well and Saludos all making their seasonal reappearances at Down Royal, it’s probably best to look back at what has thankfully been another very successful campaign for me.

SIREN’S SONG was a hot topic of discussion after last Sunday’s racing in Navan and I have to say she won the Salsabil Stakes very well. I said last week I thought she might be good and she certainly indicated that with a strong finish to win by a length and a half.

The Cheltenham nerves are kicking in now and we’re really just putting the finishing touches to our team for the festival. We haven’t fully decided on the full make-up of that team but Oscars Well and Bostons Angel will definitely be going and I’m happy to report that they are well.
