The Waterford County Board have released a statement to refute claims made by former Sports Minister Martin Cullen that he could have delivered a new stadium for them a decade ago had they been willing to leave Walsh Park.

Waterford GAA chairman Tom Cunningham aired his optimism about the state of the county’s finances at the annual convention in Lawlor’s Hotel, Dungarvan last night, after the Déise slashed their losses of €210,000 in 2012 to just €2,798 for this year.

Tony Mansfield, whose death took place in Cork on Sunday at the age of 73, was a leading figure in Waterford GAA, a member of the squad which contested the All-Ireland hurling final of 1963 against Kilkenny and going on to manage the 1992 U21 team which won the county’s only national title in the grade.
