An Bord Pleanála has rejected an application by a wind energy company to grant it leave to apply for “substitute consent” to enable eight turbines that have been operating beyond their planning remit in Waterford to remain in operation.

International energy firm Element Power is planning to improve Britain’s renewable energy provisions by building a number of wind farms in the Irish midlands — a move which will create thousands of jobs here and result in Ireland exporting over €1.2 billion worth of wind-generated electricity to Britain annually.

National Grid UK has signed a contract with Element Power to provide 3,000 megawatts of electricity to Britain from Ireland - through two subsea cables as 2,000 new jobs are to be created in Ireland as part of an €8bn euro renewable energy investment.
