Caroline Copley Lufthansa posted an operating loss of €336m for the first three months of the year, hurt by rising fuel costs and excess capacity in Europe.

Shares in airlines, including Ryanair and Aer-Lingus-owner IAG, as well as travel giant TUI soared, as the threat of any disruption from Brexit was put off beyond the industry’s most profitable summer season.

THE market in Dublin market closed marginally higher yesterday. The ISEQ index nudged upwards by just 1.48 points to 2963.34.

THE Irish market dipped below 2,900 points yesterday as comprehensive GDP data from the US confirmed that the recession was worse than first thought and that previous future growth prediction may have been on the optimistic side.

THE ISEQ index dropped slightly yesterday as the financials weighed the market down. The market shed 23.16 to 8,275.24.

The ISEQ capitalised on Friday’s strong numbers, pushing ever closer to the 8,000 point level of May.
