Families who are eager to continue the festivities will love a Panto Break at the Limerick Strand Hotel after Christmas. With overnight accommodation in a gorgeous family bedroom for two adults and two children under twelve, as well as a family ticket to Cinderella at the University Concert Hall starring Samantha Mumba, this is a sure-fire way to shake off the Twixmas blues. The Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel is running a special race package for Twistmas which includes race day tickets, complimentary parking, transfers to and from the race course, one night’s accommodation and breakfast the following morning from €99 per person.


The Rose Hotel in Tralee is celebrating Christmas until New Year’s Eve, with special festive menus designed by chef Odhran Lucey. Mini guests can take a seat for dinner at 5.30pm followed by festive activities in the North Pole Kid’s Club such as gingerbread men decorating, pin the red nose on Rudolph and Christmas charades all guaranteed to engage and delight the kids, leaving the adults time to enjoy some rest and relaxation in the warm and intimate Dott’s Bar or the newly launched Serenity Spa. Set in the stunning surrounds of Connemara, the family-run Cashel House Hotel is the perfect spot to base yourself for an active Twixmas getaway. Use your break here as an opportunity to recharge; the bedrooms are really comfy, and decorated with flounces and chintz throws that will make you feel like you are staying in your most posh relative’s country manor for the weekend, and the welcome you will get here is second to none – it’s no wonder people travel from all over the world to stay here. Head to the spa for a sensory and relaxing Festive Back Massage in The Island Spa using warming spices of cardamom and ginger to boost the circulation and immunity before snuggling up in the TV room which will be showing the best festive movies throughout the week. The Lodges at Waterford Castle are a fabulous place to base a family Twixmas adventure, particularly if you have young children and need space and crucially, access to a kitchen. Each lodge offers three large bedrooms, a spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen and a patio with many overlooking the golf course. Set in the magnificent hotel grounds, the lodges are located along a fairy trail where Eliza the Fairy will guide you through the forest and point out where you might spot some of the resort’s resident deer. Guests of the lodges have access to the facilities of the hotel, and the houses are located minutes away from the onside playground. From €275 per night.


For lovers who need to get away from prying family after a joyous Christmas together, let us suggest a trip to The Ice House in Westport. Think goose-down duvets, an outdoor hot tub and lots of romantic crackly fires and you’ve got the idea.
