AOIFA is planning a trip to the World Association of Flower Arrangers 12th World Flower Showin Barbados from June 18 to June 26, 2017.

Places are filling up fast for the 8-nightevent, titled  “Flowers in Paradise”  and those interested in joining up with The Association of Irish Floral Artists should call Caroline Crowley at Heffernan’s Travel Pembroke Street Cork on (021) 2300700.

Bord Bia’s Bloom is taking place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin today until Monday so there’s still time to go and see one of the biggest events in the Irish horticultural calendar. 

As Ireland’s largest gardening, food and family festival, Bloom is now a key feature of the June bank holiday weekend and celebrates its 10th birthday this year. 

Bord Bia’s annual showcase of the best of Ireland’s horticulture and food industry will once again feature a range of impressive show gardens, food features and family entertainment.

Fermoy Flower and Garden Club’s June meeting will take place in the Adair Hall on Tuesday June 7 at 8pm. 

There will be a flower demonstration by AOIFA demonstrator and teacher Eileen O’Brien entitled “Summer Time Treasures.” 

Competition Cacti/succulent 20cm pot. Horticulture 3 stems variegated foliage. 

Cup and Saucer flower arrangement. Names taken for July 5 outing to Wexford.

Cork Nature Network are holding a bird walk led by researcher and tour guide, Suzanne Burns to learn about the sea and wading birds of Cork Harbour. 

This event is on tomorrow, Sunday June 5 at 12.30 and is free. 

Suzanne has a wealth of experience and many interesting stories to share. 

This is a great opportunity to learn more about local wildlife. This event is also part of Cork Harbour Week.

Cobh Flower and Horticulture Club will hold their next meeting in Cobh Community Centre on Monday June 13 at 7.30pm. 

It will be a Floral Demonstration by Carmel O’Driscoll D.Dip AOIFA entitled “Summer Colour”.

Damien Enright is giving a talk on Thursday, June 9 at 7.30 in Clonakilty Library. 

He is a journalist, television writer-presenter, broadcaster and published poet.  

He has also written and presented television programs for RTÉ, including the well-regarded three-part series, Enright’s Way. 

Other works include six walking commentaries on West Cork and its offshore islands, travel writing for Irish and overseas magazines, a memoir published in 2010, and Scenic Walks in West Cork, published in 2011.
