Get the blues — in a good way — this year with TheVelvetLab.
Working with a palette of intense blues, they have everything from cushions, shades, stools and low loungers designed with sumptuous velvets in gorgeous blue shades and a variety of patterns. CA Design sale continues online until Jan 18, at www.cadesign.ie — and also at their pop-up shop, on no 44 South Lott Street, today. This is one of the bargains to be had, a soft-pad chair inspired by Charles Eames — it was €750, now reduced to €599. All the CA Design pieces are designed in Ireland and inspired by 20th century furniture designers.
How cute is this hanging egg chair? From the Greenroom collection, it’s got woven polyethylene covers, with anti-rust aluminium frames and comes with the cushion. Available from Griffin’s Garden Centre, Dripsey, Cork, for €349. (021) 733 4286.
Harvey Norman are helping out with any ‘got to eat better’ resolutions. The Kenwood BLX51 is a powerful, 800w blender with a versatile design suitable for right-and left-handed use. The poor lefties do get forgotten about in the gadget department; so nice to see the Kenwood boffins looking after them. The BLX51 includes ‘Pulse Plus’, good for ice-crushing, drinks, soups and dips.
€159 from stores nationwide or have a browse on www.harveynorman.ie.
As designs for teapots go, this is a pretty funky one. The Rika Geo teapot is designed by Paperchase and could be yours for under €20. Not including p&p. www.paperchase.co.uk.
Carewswood is the brainchild of couple, Daniel Leahy and Juulika Lomp, who combine their horticultural and culinary skills with an eco-friendly ethos in their garden centre and café. The centre is set within a traditional, 19th century walled garden, a half-hour drive from Cork City, in Castlemartyr, and is worth a visit. I love this ornamental, handcrafted watering can, €42, and there is a selection of other animals available, starting from €25. www.carewswoodgardencentre.ie. 021-2428494.
Abigail Ahern has already created some rather quirky designs with her animal lamps, and now she’s working her mischievous magic on cushions for Debenhams. This perfect penguin is €31.
These earrings are sure to get you a chain reaction when you wear them — see what I did there? I got a pair of these as a present from a friend in Holland and I love them. These mismatched earrings are made from recycled bicycle parts and inner-tubes. The ‘feathers’ are handmade with recycled bike tubes. 24$ USD, which is about €17.50 of our fine euro. Available at www.etsy.com/shop/rosepedalsjewelry.
