Gift list: gifts for Christmas

Esther N McCarthy dips, wheels and whirls to pick cute, clever and crafty gifts for everyone this festive season.

HOME THOUGHTS FOR ABROAD: The Irish Examiner’s Mary Terry has created a popup shop on the ground floor of our offices at Lapp’s Quay (opposite the Harbour Commissioners’ HQ), and is selling vintage images from our archive in tasty, white frames using black and white pics. Complete packs start at €30 and the gift options are endless. The frames on show would look really good massed in a hallway, bedroom or even, the smallest room in the house. Great for expat presents, too.

Pic 2: DISCOVER IRELAND: Bring the whole family together for a rowdy trip around the Emerald Isle – will you stop for tea and scones, take a wrong turning or meet cows in a narrow lane? Should you accept an invitation to the Dublin Horse Show? Has another player cunningly put road works in your way? Will you discover which town is nearest the Giant’s Causeway? Suitable for everyone from school kids to grandparents, Discovering Ireland board game, €22.99 available from Gosling Games.

Pic 3: MAMAS AND BABAS: Reach for the sky with this Moon Chair by FAMA, it's a multi-position recliner with a modern design, it both swivels and rocks and comes with a removable seat, back and arm covers. Ideal for new mothers and their babies and available from New Furniture Centre, Watercourse Road, Cork for €995.

Pic 4: COSY QUILT: Don't you just want to cuddle up with this? It's 100% cotton blanket with red and blue dog applique and backed with fleece made by So Cosy. All quilts, blankets and baby bunting are designed and handmade by Brenda Palmer. All products are 100% cotton and machine washable and are made to order. The blankets are fleece backed and are extra cosy. Bunting can be designed with baby's name included and is a lovely feature for the nursery wall. So Cosy designs are adorable, modern and a little bit edgy. Brenda's email is socosybaby@gmail.com. Prices for quilts and blankets start at €50.00 + P&P for average size 80cm x 1m. Bunting starts at €20 + P&P.

Pic 5: NORDIC STAR: "Nordic Star" is just one of many colourful designs in beautifully soft blanket throws that your loved one will want to wrap up in on the sofa - maybe they'll even share with you? Available from Household Linens, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork at €55.

Pic 6: PURPLE PLANET: Bring out the kid in anyone with the Purple Hairies Finger Puppet Kit. It contains the making of two madcap finger puppets and their mischievous cat, and costs €10. Planet Purple is a small family run business, they use almost no excess packing and the boxes and the bags the kits come in can be re-used by the kids as work boxes and storage boxes. They will be at the National Craft Fair RDS Dublin, this weekend or check out the online shop www.planetpurplekids.com.

Pic 7: KLIMT CUSHION: The design for this blue cushion cover was inspired by the artist Klimt. This contemporary scatter cushion cover is mainly blue with black, white and orange detailing and is available as a 45cm square cushion cover only. Completely hand-stitched and handmade in Kashmir, it’s fairly traded. www.fairwindonline.com for €45.

Pic 8: HONEY LAMPSHADE: Get all sweet and gooey with this rather fabulous honey lampshade. It costs E36 and is available from www.designist.ie.

Pic 9: MUGS: You can't go wrong with a lovely old mug. Carolyn Donnelly's eclectic range has some really nice bits - a lovely little stocking filler for someone. The floral bowl, (€8) and mug (€5) are available from Dunnes Stores.
