Janis Joplin’s dress is sure to impress

THIS dress worn by Janis Joplin comes up at Julien’s Auctions Rock Icons sale at the Hard Rock Cafe, Times Square, New York on May 21. 

It was worn performing at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island in 1968 and at opening night of the Fillmore East in 1968. 

Images of Joplin wearing this dress are featured on the May 26, 1969, issue of Newsweek, on the cover of Laura Joplin’s Love, Janis (New York: Villard, 1992), in Myra Friedman’s Buried Alive: The Biography of Janis Joplin (New York: William Morrow & Company, 1973), and in Pearl: The Obsessions and Passions of Janis Joplin: A Biography (New York: Warner Books, 1992).

It is estimated at $70,000-$90,000. Hundreds of items of rock’n’roll memorabilia will go under the hammer in this live and online sale.
