Furniture and collectibles at two auctions in Cork

ANTIQUE furniture, collectibles, silver and art will come under the hammer at Hegarty’s, in Bandon, tomorrow, and at Woodwards, in Cork City, on Wednesday.

Hegarty’s has two portraits of unidentified ladies by the Cork artist, James Butler Brenan, dated 1862.

These paintings, which have been restored, are estimated at €2,000-€4,000. Portraits by Butler Brenan are in the Crawford Gallery.

There are 250 lots at Hegarty’s.

In addition to quality, antique country house furniture, there is solid, antique garden furniture, including two garden seats and an 1830s sundial signed by James O’Farrell. Viewing is from 2pm to 5pm today (Saturday, Jan 19) and from noon to the start of the auction, at 4pm tomorrow.

A Georgian mahogany dining table and eight chairs, estimated at €2,000-€3,000, will be offered at Woodwards first auction of 2013, in Cork, next Wednesday (Jan 23) at 6pm. It will include contents of Ballyorban House, Monkstown and other recent sales. Antique furniture on offer includes a set of Cork 11-bar dining chairs, (€1,000-€2,000), a Regency economy dining table (€1,000-€1,400) and a longcase clock by Egan’s.

There is art by Frank Egginton, Declan Marry; David Jenkins; Gretta O’Brien and Eva O’Connell. The auction is on view from 2pm to 5pm, today (Sat) and tomorrow, and from 10am to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
