Woodwards sale in Cork at 11am today is headed by a George Mounsey Wheatley Atkinson oil painting of the White Squadron. It is estimated at €40,000-60,000. 

There is a selection of antique furniture, art and collectible items on offer.


There is an island-wide art trail on Sherkin Island this weekend. It offers an opportunity to view fresh new artwork from 17 graduating students from the Sherkin BA Visual Art programme in 13 various locations. 

The range of media covers painting, drawing, sound, sculpture and site-specific work utilising the remote island landscape. 

This is a biennial show that attracted more than 1,000 visitors to the island in 2012 and 2014.Extra ferries will operate from Baltimore today and tomorrow. 

The exhibition will be on view at DIT Grangegorman from June 2 to 11 as well as at Uileann, West Cork Arts Centre, from September 10 to October 15.


The Earl of Desmond Hotel in Tralee is the venue for an antique fair tomorrow. Hibernian Antique Fairs will be in attendance from 11am to 6pm.


The current online auction of Irish art by Morgan O’Driscoll runs until next Monday at 6.30pm. It will be on view in Skibbereen from 11am to 3pm on Monday or online.


A Centennial Reflection by the artist Robert Ballagh is on view at the Hunt Museum in Limerick all next week. 

Ballagh has long been inspired by 1916, and the rebellion and its leaders have been a recurring theme in the work of an artist who represented Ireland at the Paris biennale in 1969. In this selection he reflects on the challenges and the legacy of the rebellion.


An exhibition in which 13 artists were asked to respond to the subject of Cork city runs at the Lavit Gallery, Cork, until June 7. 

The approach into Kent Station, the view from Patrick’s Hill to St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Lover’s Walk, Beales Hill, Shandon, Pembroke Street, Audley Place, The Crawford Gallery, Pope’s Quay and Patrick’s Bridge are all featured in the show. 

The artists taking part are Don Anderson, Mary Burns, Patrick Cashin, Mark Eldred, William Harrington, Emer Kelly, Josef Keys, Arthur Maderson, Anastasia O’Donoghue Healy, Victor Richardson, Thomas Ryan, Walter Verling and Edward Yen Sang.
