BIG TODDLE: Barnardos Ambassador Tom Vaughan Lawlor joined a group of toddlers last week to launch The Big Toddle for Barnardos sponsored by Toddlebox.
During May and June thousands of toddlers across Ireland will be taking up the challenge to toddle a half-mile and raise €250,000 for the children’s charity.
This year’s theme is ‘animals’ and you can register your little lion, tiger and bear cubs for a fun sponsored walk at www.barnardos.ie/bigtoddle
If you can’t toddle but would like to support Ireland’s Big Toddlers, text TODDLE to 50300 to make a €4 donation to Barnardos.
FRIDGE REMINDER: It’s a familiar sight in most homes: Shopping lists, school timetables and doctors’ appointments all stuck to the door of the refrigerator with magnets.
Miele is now offering an alternative with the new ‘Blackboard Edition’ of the K20.000 range of free-standing fridge freezers, €1,599.95.
The door can be written on with school chalk or liquid chalk markers, is easy to wipe clean and designed with young families in mind; www.miele.ie
TEA TIME: Theanine is an animo acid which may help students who are feeling overwhelmed and unable to focus.
Tea is the only source of Theanine in the diet and the best source is green tea, according to Wholefoods nutritionist Nicola Murphy.
In supplement form, she recommends Higher Nature Balance For Nerves, €11.08, which contains B vitamins, amino acids and magnesium.
Jan de Vries Concentration Essence, €4.85, is a combination of flower essences which may also help dispel the mental fog that sometimes hits when we need to concentrate the most.
Two essential oils, Rosemary and Basil, can also help promote alertness and memory and are often found together in study blends. Absolute Aromas Focus Blend, €8.06 is available from health stores; www.wholefoods.ie
RETRO FIT: In 1955, Russell Hobbs launched the world’s first electric kettle with an automatic switch off.
Their Legacy Breakfast Collection celebrates 60 years of innovation with toasters, kettles and coffee machines in a range of colours including red, cream, black and stainless steel.
The Legacy Black Kettle €59.99 has a retro look, with a 360° base for right or left-handed use; www.ie.russellhobbs.com
